Pastor Andrew accepted the call to ministry in 2004 at his home church Eastern UMC, where he was an active member for 17 years, serving as youth coordinator, Lay Servant, United Methodist Man, choir member, Christian education team member, SPRC Co-Chair, and Young adult council member. He served at Salem UMC Hebbville for 3 years before being deployed. Pastor Andrew serves as a Network Communication Systems Specialist in the Maryland Army National Guard, at the rank of SGT, and is coming up on 21 years of service in October. He also works full-time Unarmed security at Medstar in Baltimore City. He is currently taking courses at Liberty University, and working towards obtaining his first degree. He is a loving husband, devoted father of three, but most importantly a child of God and a disciple of Jesus Christ. His favorite scriptures are 1st Corinthians 13:11 and Isaiah 26:9.
It is the role and mission of Graceland United Methodist Church: That knowing we are not perfect, but that we are loved by God and others, we are saved by Jesus Christ and we are guided by the Holy Spirit, we will try to:
- Practice our Christianity every day being more accepting and inclusive as a congregation and as individuals,
- Reach out in love beyond our congregation, and
- To listen and hear others in a non-judgmental manner.
Welcome
Greetings! Allow us to introduce ourselves. We are Graceland United Methodist Church. Over the past 103 years, we’ve come to be known as the “Friendly Church”. This is the kind of church where everybody knows your name and it doesn’t scare you. We average just over a hundred people on Sunday morning: enough to be exciting but not enough to get lost in the shuffle. Almost everybody attends our weekly fellowship time to eat, catch up with old friends, and make new ones.
Graceland UMC is a family of all ages. Many of our families have three generations present in the pews. Our Sunday School is phenomenal. We have classes for all ages and use current official United Methodist literature from Cokesbury. The same goes for our annual Vacation Bible School, which attracts children from the entire neighborhood. Graceland’s church suppers are famous in the area for offering only home-cooked poultry (no processed rolls) and real whipped potatoes.
As a worshiping community, we take our faith very seriously. Proclamation of and response to the Word are central in our services, which are liturgical but casual. (Wear whatever you want. Everybody else does!)
